Lunch & Learn: Literacy Workshop with Honors Designated Librarian Tim Arnold

Honors Designated Librarian Tim Arnold will host a Literacy Workshop on Monday, October 19th from 12-1:15 PM. Review the description below and register in advance here. We will email you the Zoom link prior to the event.

Workshop Description: Are you worried about the amount of misinformation you see on the internet and social media? A major recent study published in the journal Science found that misinformation, or so-called “fake news,” spreads faster and is read by more people than real news.

The problem may sound overwhelming, but the Stanford Graduate School of Education developed a critical reading technique that you can use to help distinguish trustworthy information from misinformation. In this workshop, Tim Arnold will demonstrate this critical reading technique and you will have the opportunity to use it as well. We will also define different levels of information credibility and talk about how to use the University of Iowa Libraries to find information you can trust.
