About

  • Honors Primetime is recommended to all first-year honors students as a fun way to learn about the Honors Program and build connections with peers, faculty, and staff before the fall semester begins! This is a perfect way for students to familiarize themselves with campus and Iowa City, make a few new friends, and learn something new in an active learning environment.
    • Honors Primetime (HONR:1100, Sections 0001-0015)
      • Pre-semester workshop takes place on Monday, August 19-Thursday, August 22.
      • Each workshop is taught by faculty and staff members across campus who have fascinating interdisciplinary interests. Each workshop topic is developed by the instructor to create an interactive and engaging curriculum.
      • Students enroll in the Honors Primetime section of their choosing at their orientation advising appointment.
      • Students who enroll in HONR:1100 Honors Primetime are required to enroll in HONR:1000:0EXV Introduction to Honors. HONR:1000:0EXV Introduction to Honors is an asynchronous and online course that all new first-year, new transfer, and new current students are expected to take their first semester of college. This class starts at the beginning of Fall 2024 semester (Monday, August 26). Successful completion of HONR:1000:0EXV will earn students 1 semester hour of honors coursework credit.
      • Successful completion of Honors Primetime will earn students 1 honors experiential learning credit.
    • For students who are involved in Iowa Edge, International Student Orientation, Hawkeye Marching Band, or have any other obligations the week before school starts, please enroll in HONR:1000:0EXW Introduction to Honors at your orientation advising appointment. This online and asynchronous class starts at the beginning of Fall 2024 semester (Monday, August 26).
      • Every first-year, new transfer, and new current honors student is expected to take Introduction to Honors in their first semester of the program. This class is a fun and engaging way to learn about what it means to be a student in the Honors Program and build community with peers, faculty, and staff. This asynchronous and online course will require students to interact with the Honors Program community in a variety of ways: attending an Honors Welcome Session, making an advising appointment with an Honors Peer Mentor, attending a few honors social events/campus events, and engaging in some meaningful reflections. Successful completion of the semester curriculum will result in students earning 1 s.h. of honors coursework credit.
