UI Mock Trial won regional tournament
The UI Mock Trial (UIMT) program won its regional tournament for the second year in a row after competing in Kansas City, Mo. Feb. 10-12. The program took four teams to the regional competitions in Cedar Rapids and Kansas City and succeeded in qualifying two teams — the maximum number of teams a school can send — for the prenationals tournament in St. Louis March 16-18.
Senior Jerod Haldin and junior Katy Kinney, captains of team 1425, led their team to first place at the Kansas City Regional. Kinney received an Outstanding Attorney Award. Seniors Melissa Osman and Will Mattessich led team 1424 to a third place finish in Kansas City. Mattessich received an Outstanding Attorney Award and was the highest ranked attorney at the tournament.
Teams 1426 and 1427 competed in the Cedar Rapids Regional Feb. 3-5 and returned with one Outstanding Witness Award earned by junior Julie Gagnon.
To date the program has earned more than 30 individual awards, 14 top place finishes, four tournament championships, and one Spirit of AMTA Award for the 2011-2012 season alone.
