As a first-generation college student, Jess began her higher education as a real estate and finance major so she could sell houses for a living. After dropping a rather dreadful Intro to Financial Accounting class her sophomore year, she decided to switch her major and study communication and management. Jess's undergraduate experience allowed her to marry her passion for communication and design with her natural ability to organize and lead. She earned her bachelor's degree in graphic communications from the University of Northern Iowa in May of 2009.
Jess has previously worked for AM Management (a property management company), Image Pointe (a unionized screen printer), the Waterloo Community School District, Hills Bank & Trust Company, and the University of Iowa Libraries. As the Communications Specialist and Honors Program Coordinator she oversees administrative support, directs outreach and communications, and manages program initiatives and operations. She has been an integral part of our staff since October of 2013.
A life-long learner and creative problem solver, she has completed a series of courses and trainings ranging from motivational interviewing to OSHA training. Her ability to approach challenges in a positive way and empower others to do the same earned her the honor as the University of Iowa's first Student Supervisor of the Year in April of 2016.
Jessica lives in Iowa City with her husband TJ and 11 year old pitbull/lab named Maggie (after the baby in "The Simpsons"). She enjoys photography, coffee, humor, being outdoors, office supplies, organization, and food. All the food.
