Next Steps for Current UI Students

Students Who are Admitted in the Fall (applications submitted October 1-December 1)

Students are required to enroll in at least one honors course in the fall semester following admission to the program. However, we strongly recommend you take at least one honors course in the spring semester. Please discuss spring honors course options with your advisor as you plan your course schedule.

If you apply by October 20, 2019 and have met with an Honors Peer Mentor prior to applying, you will have an admission decision before Early Registration begins for the Spring 2020 semester. If you plan to take a spring honors course but are admitted to the program after already having registered for the spring semester, you should plan to add and/or switch into an honors section for the spring as soon as possible.

Please note that many departments offer courses with "honors" in the title that do not count for University Honors. These are typically courses related to earning honors in a major and cannot count towards your University Honors requirements (unless they are also listed as University Honors courses in MyUI).

Students are permitted to contract a course in their first semester in the program. However, be advised that you must complete your 12sh of honors coursework within four semesters (by the end of Spring 2022 for students admitted by December 2019), and that many of the honors courses available are general education courses.

Students who neither register for a University Honors course nor complete a contract course in the fall semester following admission to the program will be removed from the program. For more information about honors coursework and instructions about how to find honors courses in MyUI, visit the Honors Coursework page.

You are always welcome to come back to meet with an Honors Peer Mentor or to schedule an appointment with a member of the professional staff.
