Honors Program

Advising

Diverse sources of highly informed advice are available to Honors Students at Iowa.  These can be sustained or occasional, as each student wishes.

Iowa students in general can tap the Academic Advising Center, the Pomerantz Career Center, as well as the faculty and staff advisors for specific majors in the undergraduate colleges and departments.  Honors Students take advantage of all these advisors.  Honors Students also can work with the faculty honors advisors who help students graduate with honors in their majors.  Information about each of these advising sources is available through the pop-out menu for Advising on the left.

In addition, the Honors Program furnishes advisors of several sorts to clarify choices, convey details, augment options, and pave the many avenues to honors education at Iowa.  The Honors Advising Coordinator orchestrates the whole effort, providing a good point of initial contact.  Honors Professional Advisors cover the many opportunities offered by the Honors Program, with each member of the Honors Professional Staff addressing a different range of programs and studies.  Honors Peer Advisors and the Honors Summer Guides are experienced Honors Students who share their practical perspectives on Iowa courses and other resources.  Likewise members of the Honors Faculty share expertise in their academic and professional fields by serving as advisors and mentors to Honors Students interested in those fields.  Again further information can be accessed the pop-out menu for Advising on the left.

Advice should flow both ways.  Honors advisors pool what they learn from students and feed this information into improvements for Honors offerings.  The Honors Advisory Committee, moreover, brings Honors Students together throughout the year to help the Honors Staff think about what priorities should be for these improvements.
