Advising

Pomerantz Career Center

At Iowa, career advice comes principally from faculty and staff advisors in student majors and from professional advisors in the Pomerantz Career Center.  This operates from the Pomerantz Center, next door to the Blank Honors Center.

We know that employers and other gate-keepers appreciate the excellent education available from honors work:  taking advanced courses, conducting frontier research, studying abroad, doing internships, volunteering service, contributing leadership, and more.  Our distinctive device of Honors Commendations helps coordinate and communicate what Honors Students accomplish at Iowa.

Especially in this connection, Honors is happy to add to Iowa’s career counseling.  The Honors Professional Staff is especially well equipped to advise students on graduate and professional education:  generating strong records, selecting appropriate schools, submitting persuasive applications, even securing relevant fellowships.

Iowa undergraduates also benefit enormously from Iowa’s professional colleges, its Graduate College, and its specific graduate programs.  Their admissions officers and faculty members prove repeatedly to be generous sources of advice and encouragement — whether a student expects to continue work at Iowa or wants information about opportunities elsewhere.
