These are exciting times for Honors at Iowa! Our building is new and beautiful. Our ambitions are big and imaginative. Our programs are many and growing.
Our distinctive talented-and-gifted approach to honors education features learning by doing, in the classroom and beyond. This fits our physical home in the Blank Honors Center, the world’s only facility wholly for talented-and-gifted education from pre-kindergarten through college. It links by skywalk to the Honors House that fills Daum Residence Hall with Honors Students.
The idea is to enhance skills, enrich experiences, and make learning a thrill throughout. This means our students work from the start in intellectual and residential communities with other Honors Students, the Honors Student Staff, and the Honors Faculty. It also means we couple educational challenges with personal support, so that students can earn strongly competitive credentials.
At Iowa, most Honors Classes are small. This enables creative exercises and keeps interactions intense. Honors Students enjoy ample opportunities for original research, cultural exploration, artistic invention, political action, community service, and more. Students can design their own programs of study, choose from a rich array of Iowa innovations, or learn almost any discipline in the world. To feed sparks from its students, Honors adds superb advisors, events, facilities, grants, and projects. Especially Honors provides inventive friends, who can help every student soar.
